What SafeContractor is

SafeContractor is a health and safety accreditation scheme for contractors. Clients use it to confirm that contractors have appropriate health and safety management in place before appointing them.

The assessment looks at how you manage health and safety in practice: policies, risk assessments and method statements, training, insurance and performance records, with accreditation renewed annually.

Where applications commonly struggle

• Documents prepared to pass the form rather than to run the business
• Out-of-date insurance, training or competence evidence
• Method statements that do not match the activities you carry out
• Inconsistent information across the application
• Annual renewal handled at the last minute

How we support you

Support is delivered by a consultant with BS 7858:2019 certification, SIA audit experience and a background in security operations, working directly with your management team.

Readiness review

We check your arrangements against what the assessment expects and list what needs to change.

Documents and evidence

We help you prepare or update policies, risk assessments, method statements and supporting records.

Application and renewal

We support the application and put a simple annual routine in place so renewal is not a scramble.

Good to know

CHAS, SMAS Worksafe, SafeContractor and Constructionline are all members of SSIP (Safety Schemes in Procurement), whose members recognise each other’s health and safety assessments. Many clients accept more than one scheme, so check which one your target clients ask for before you apply.
