What SMAS Worksafe is

SMAS Worksafe is a health and safety accreditation scheme for contractors and suppliers. Like other pre-qualification schemes, it lets clients check your safety management arrangements once, rather than through a separate questionnaire for every tender.

Applicants are assessed on their health and safety policy and organisation, risk management, safe systems of work, training and competence, and monitoring of performance.

Where applications commonly struggle

  • Policies that do not match how the business really operates
  • Safe systems of work and RAMS that are not specific enough to the activities carried out
  • Training and competence records that are hard to retrieve
  • Little evidence of monitoring and review
  • Application documents that are inconsistent with each other

How we support you

Support is delivered by a consultant with BS 7858:2019 certification, SIA audit experience and a background in security operations, working directly with your management team.

Readiness review

We review your current health and safety documents and records against what the scheme expects, and tell you what to fix first.

Documentation and RAMS

We help you produce a clear policy, risk assessments and safe systems of work that fit the work you do.

Application and renewal

We support you through the application and help you keep the accreditation current year to year.

Good to know

CHAS, SMAS Worksafe, SafeContractor and Constructionline are all members of SSIP (Safety Schemes in Procurement), whose members recognise each other’s health and safety assessments. Many clients accept more than one scheme, so check which one your target clients ask for before you apply.

What you get

  • A clear baseline of where you stand against the scheme
  • Policies, procedures and records written for how you really work
  • An evidence pack organised so it can be produced quickly
  • Help with renewals so the accreditation stays current
